Due to its scarcity of natural resources, Singapore is mostly dependent on its human capital and strategic planning.     Singapore’s strategy is noteworthy at a time when many democracies struggle with dwindling public confidence in their institutions. It recasts government as a rigorous and challenging career path by paying leaders what elite professionals may make in the private sector. Proponents contend that the outcomes speak for themselves, while detractors may wonder if such compensation is warranted.

    In fact, a careful balancing act has already started to emerge under Lawrence Wong’s tenure. His initiatives demonstrate a dedication to long-term planning over populist pressure, from guiding post-pandemic recovery to promoting regional collaboration. His remarkably straightforward and frequently subtle communication approach has struck a chord with a public that is growing more aware of competency and openness.
